Temples



Long before the Portuguese came in, the region was under the rule of Konkani tribal kings who bowed down in front of the Maratha Empire. The rulers were mainly Hindus, who built several temples. Though at the time of foreign invasion a majority of them were destroyed, still some magnificent ones like Shri Saptakoteshwar temple, Maruti temple, Shri Damodar temple, Shri Mahadeva temple, Mahalaxmi temple and Sri Mahalsa temple have successfully etched their name as prominent places of worship for the Hindus. These spectacular temples follow the Kadamba style of architecture, which appears like bungalows at first glance. So, the next time you're in Goa, take some time out to explore these splendid temples.
